What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in healthcare. Florida Statute,2001 Chapter 468.701, Part XIII, defines an athletic trainer as “a person licensed and adequately trained to recognize, prevent, and treat physical injuries sustained during athletic activity”. In cooperation with OHS Team Orthopedic Doctor, the ATC functions as an integral member of the athletic healthcare team at OHS, serving as a liaison between the parent, coach, overseeing physician and athlete. Athletic Trainers prefer to be called Athletic Trainers or A.T.’s to eliminate confusion between themselves and personal trainers.
